My father was able to educate my older sister but when the time for my
education came, he had to withdraw his support as we developed many financial
issues. I had two choices; either start working, or create my own means to
acquire education. I had joined an academy for Matric at that time. After the
first few days, when they asked for the admission fee, I asked my father if
there was any possibility that he could pay for my tuition. When there was not,
I stopped going to the academy. They called a few
days later, asking why I hadn’t come. When I told them the reason, the founder
said to me that I should have told him the situation sooner, and told me to
continue coming from the next day.
I went to him and told him I was not going
to study for free and he told me how I could repay him; by checking papers for
E-Cat and M-Cat that he taught me how to mark. I also gave tuition to students
of 7th and 8th class so that I could get by with my education. After Matric, I
started working at a shoe shop as a salesperson. I used to work in the day and
study at night. When it was time to start college, it was Sir Umair again who
got me admitted into an institute, and after classes at college, I used to
study with him till midnight. That man changed my life for the better. I am a
manager now at a very decent place and am able to earn for my wife and my
family. I have learned a lot from my struggles and it isn’t as if the struggles
have ended. They continue even now, but I have learned well enough to pave my
way through any and everything.
